Fivefold
Play a card, claim its space. Five in a row is a run. Two runs wins.
The basics
Every space on the board shows a card. Play that card from your hand and the space becomes yours. Get five of your tokens in a line — across, down or diagonally — and that’s a run. Two runs and you win.
The four star corners are free. They count for everybody, so a line through one only needs four of your own tokens.
If both spaces for a card are already taken, the card is dead. Swap it for a new one without losing your turn.
Jacks
Jacks aren’t on the board, so they do something else. Open Jack (♦ ♣) puts a token on any free space. Shut Jack (♠ ♥) takes an opponent’s token off the board — though tokens already inside a finished run are safe.
The three odd ones
Spin — pick any 2×2 block and rotate the four tokens in it a quarter turn. Blocks holding a corner or a finished run are off limits. It can just as easily make a run for your opponent, so look before you use it.
Shake-Up — choose any player, including yourself. Their whole hand goes back into the deck and they draw a fresh one.
Poach — take a card at random from your opponent, then choose one of your own to hand back. You end up level on cards, but you know something they don’t.
